Overall
Spanish is a language I enjoy learning. This class will benefit me in the future as well as give me a background on another culture. This gives me the opportunity to be able to travel to places around the world that has spanish as their main language. I have traveled to Mexico, Costa Rica, and will be traveling across the country to countries with spanish as one of their main languages. This is a benefit to me to be able to communicate and have a more of an enjoyable experience when I travel.
Recipe and Ode Project
For the Recipe and Ode project we were assigned a country. My country was Spain also known as España in spanish. For this project we were required to find a recipe that we would translate into spanish and than cook the food for our exhibition. Although this task may sound easy, it was extreamly challenging to learn many different verbs in order to translate the directions correctly. After we finished our recipes we each made an Ode. My ode is called Sugar also known as Azúcar in Spanish. This project was really fun and it required some baking as well!

Here's the ultimate recipe to make your own churros at home, just like they were at the churrería stands. Of course, the difference here is price. Here you can make a whole batch for what is cost for a few. Once you make the churros, you can make the authentic chocolate dip to dunk them in.
Ingredients: (Makes one plateful)
· Vegetable or Olive Oil
· 1 cup water
· 1/2 cup margarine or butter
· 1/4 teaspoon salt
· 1 cup all-purpose flour
· 3 eggs
· 1/4 cup sugar
· 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Prepare to fry the churros by heating oil in a pan (1 to 1&1/2 inches) to 360 degrees F. To make churro dough, heat water, margarine and salt to rolling boil in 3-quart saucepan; stir in flour. Stir vigorously over low heat until mixture forms a ball, about 1 minute; remove from heat. Beat eggs all at once; continue beating until smooth and then add to saucepan while stirring mixture.
Spoon mixture into cake decorators' tube with large star tip (like the kind use to decorate cakes). Squeeze 4-inch strips of dough into hot oil. Fry 3 or 4 strips at a time until golden brown, turning once, about 2 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. (Mix Sugar and the optional cinnamon); roll churros in sugar or dump the sugar on the pile of churros, like the pros. That churro taste will take you right back to your favorite summer days walking the paseos of Spain. Note: REAL churros in Spain are made without cinnamon mixed with the sugar, but the cinnamon adds an extra nice flavor.

Arte y Lengua
For this project we were required to choose a Spanish artist from either Spain or a Latin American country. We were asked to chose the artist of your choice and create an art piece that resembled your artist. We could chose to create a painting, sculpture, drawing, or a sculpture. Reflexión
I really enjoyed this project because you could create any type of art you would like! It was awesome to see all the different types of art shown at the exhibition. For my project I decided to study Joan Miro because I found all of his work to be colorful and unique! My two favorite pieces of his is "May" and "Young Joan Miro." Since I couldn't decide which piece to base my art off of, I decided I would combine the two! I used the painting "May"( Mayo in spanish) as the background and the painting "Young Joan Miro"(Known as Joven Joan Miro in spanish) as my main part of my painting and drawing. The painting/drawing of "Young Joan Miro" was a portrait of Joan Miro. I decided I would create my art similar to his and do a portrait of myself! I used the elements and similar lines and shapes as the painting "May" in the background of my portrait. The most challenging part of this project was creating the portrait of myself. To do this I used oil pastels. This was the first time I had created an art piece using soft and hard pastels. I made lots of mistakes and was constantly refining my work throughout the creation. Since I was not experienced with using oil pastels when I began this project I had to practice and constantly make my shading and blending darker. At first, the pastel would wipe of, fade, or smudge. Right before the exhibition, I found this clear spray that would hold everything in place and make it look neat and shiny! It was a brilliant idea! I finalized my art work by darkening the lines and shapes and finally sprayed it down so that it would stay in tact.
Another thing that I found most challenging doing this project was the writing! I would want to say something that was too complex and above my knowledge of Spanish. It was difficult to write with no past tense and only the things I have been taught. I found myself re-writing paragraphs and trying to talk more like a kindergardener. However, after using word reference and practicing writing in Spanish I gained a better vocabulary and understanding.

Cuba Libro!
For this project we chose a country to create a book on it in Spanish! Throughout this project it expanded my spanish vocabulary and gave me a chance to use my creativity and learn the background of my country. My country I chose was Cuba!
Throughout this project, I am most proud of the writing I was able to accomplish during this project. I used many words I didn't know before this project. Also I am proud of the appearance of my book. I refined my art work to make it more appealing and neat. I persevered through the tough complex grammar and vocabulary.
Through this project it was challenging near the end of my draft because it was hard for me to find my mistakes in spanish. I had to reference back to word reference quite often to make sure my sentences were worded correctly.

Exhibition with Del Alma
This exhibition taught us how to speak and read to kids. We had to be patient with the kids and speak clear and slow for them to understand. Many of the kids had little background on spanish so we would have to explain what was going on in our book in english! This was an exciting, and energetic exhibition. They were really excited and eager to hear you story. I enjoyed this exhibition because it wasn't that intimidating! It was a great place to start an exhibition reading to children rather than adults.
